Progress on my office

A few weeks ago I posted photos of my office in hopes to win a gift card to Homegood, a fantastic store if you’ve never been, but apparently it wasn’t sad enough because I didn’t win.  That did put a spring in my step to finally get started on my office.  Before it was a lovely shade of green….on the paint chip, it was horrendous when it was an entire room.  The mister and I bought some paint for the deck and didn’t use hardly any of it and it was a lovely shade of chocolate brown and it looks absolutely delicious on the walls.

It’s it pretty?  I was so excited to get it done.  It took me just about 1 entire day.  It’s still a mess, but isn’t nearly as bad as it was before or even as it looks, I believe.

The next thing on my list is fixing my awesome goodwill find

These pictures are after I’ve sanded it down, the mister somehow lost the card that I had taken several pictures on, including the freshly bought desk.  Not bad for $25, huh?  I’m in love, can’t wait to get it done!  I’ve just put the first coat of paint on, more updates to come!

I’m working on it!

Well, it’s been a buy couple of weeks.  Between work and prepping for the upcoming semester and animals and husband and our homemade Christmas I just haven’t had time.  I have been crafting, but seeing as the Mister reads my blog I can’t blog about the awesome crafts that I’ve been working on for him.  Let me explain.

We spent a lot on our wedding, way more than we should have, but it was amazing and if I had to redo it the only thing I would change would be our heifer wedding planner who was basically useless….but, that’s another post!  Last year I made an awesome advent calendar with cute chrimtmasy paper lunch bags, so it’s huge, and we decided to just do that this year.  We gave ourselves $20 each to spend on supplies and we have to make all of our gifts.  It was pretty difficult coming up with 12 different handmade gifts for the mister, but I did it, I think, I might have to rethink a few.  As the days in December click by I will be blogging about the gifts that I’ve given him, don’t want to spoil the fun, the Mister HATES spoiled surprises, he tells me I spoil something ever year, maybe I do, but not on purpose!

The other project I’m working on is my office!  I’m so excited about this, but it’s slow going.  I’ve bought a beautiful desk from the Goodwill that I just need to sand and finish, then I can really start work on my space, I’ll let you know as I get things done.  The only thing so far is I’ve painted my office, from horrible green to beautiful chocolate brown, pics to come, I’ve got to get them off the camera.

I’m off to wake up the mister and to get our first married Thanksgiving started, I’m so excited about the holiday season with husband!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Tiny kitchen redo

Our kitchen is not small, really, but it has limited storage and a lot of open space for a table.  We got a TON of kitchen stuff as wedding gifts and we had no where to put it.  We bought a steel table for when I work on cakes, but I’ve been doing very few cakes this year so we decided to bring the table in as storage and an extra working space.

The only problem is all the storage under the table makes the kitchen look really messy, and I hate mess!  I needed a table cloth, but one that hangs down to the floor on at least 3 sides, they don’t make tablecloths that long, so I had to make a skirt to go around.  This was the best decision anyways, that way there is still plenty of work space on top and we don’t have to worry about dirtying the cloth.

We only have Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabrics in town, so I went to Hobby Lobby first, because I just love Hobby Lobby and I found an awesome fabric that would be perfect but it was $23 a yard and I just could not stomach that!  Then I went to Hancock and after much circling the designer fabrics I decided on a chocolate brown pintuck, but it was still $9.50 a yard, I needed 3, but decided it wasn’t going to get any better or cheaper so I bit the bullet and just did it.  I was so excited when she scanned it and told me it was only $6.50!!  I love a surprise sale!  I happily got my 3 yards, thread and Velcro and went along my merry way!

I measured the length it needed to be, then hemmed the top and bottom.  Then I started the fiasco.  I don’t use Velcro much, but obviously got the sticky backed so it would stick to the table.  I didn’t really think about sewing with the sticky backing, and went through a tough 30 minute period while I tried to get a stitch to run through the fabric and Velcro…needless to say, don’t try to sew sticky backed Velcro…it just doesn’t work!  The adhesive on the back of the Velcro is strong enough to hold the fabric all on its own, or so I hope.  I have a feeling I’ll have some felines hanging from them as soon as they figure out it’s possible, so hopefully it’s strong enough to hold 10ish pounds, but I’m kind of doubting it!

I put the Velcro on the right side so it would hang with the Velcro invisible underneath. I snipped the Velcro and fabric at the corners so the skirt can wrap around the table.

Look how much better it looks now!  Excuse the dead flowers, I just can’t find the gumption to throw away the only flowers left from the wedding….one day maybe!

I’m still getting my blogging chops, so stick around to watch me blossom!  Next up is a Dream Board I’m making for mine and my husbands dreams!
