: Characters belong to me and my permission is required before they can be borrowed. This is a standalone but it is a prequel to Blast from Yellow's Past a Zordonian Ranger Fanfic during which Marsha White learned she was adopted. What this deals with is Dionne Wilson-Kent's decision on whether or not to try to get back into Marsha's life. It also reveals how Dionne first met her husband Jamal Kent. One day Dionne Wilson-Kent was sitting in the living room of her house while the kids were off at various activities and her husband was at work. A psychiatrist friend of hers was visiting and was sitting on a chair.
"The kids are certainly doing good aren't they," her friend said.
"Yes I find it a real tribute to my abilities for Hillary and Randi to be turning out so well. Raising Jasmine has been a real treat. Sometimes I wonder how Marsha is doing," Dionne said.
"I'm lost. I thought you only had three kids," her friend said.
"I'm raising three kids two of my own and one that is actually my husbands. I gave birth to Marsha when I was sixteen and I gave her up for adoption to a couple who had helped me out when I was in labor with her. I haven't visited with Marsha or her family since I gave her up," Dionne said.
"How did you and Jamal meet?" Her friend asked.
IT was five years ago at the time Jasmine was only two months old. I was at the park watching Hillary and Randi play in some Sand when Jamal walked over with Jasmine in a carriage.
"Hi there those two yours?" He asked referring to the twins.
"Yes they are. I'm Dionne Wilson."
"Jamal Kent and this little thing is my daughter Jasmine," he said looking down at the carriage.
"Talk about adorable. I bet your wife is glad to have a child as cute as her," Dionne said.
"Unfortunately Angela is with the Angels now. She died two months ago about half an hour after Jasmine was born," Jamal said.
"That's too bad. How have you been managing raising her alone?" Dionne asked.
"It's been interesting. Thankfully my boss gave me some time off both to deal with Angela's death and also to take care of Jasmine," Jamal said.
"You mind if I hold her?" Dionne asked.
"Go right ahead. How many kids do you have?" Jamal asked.
"I've given birth to three kids but I'm only raising the twins. My first child Marsha is ten only I had put her up for adoption as a baby," Dionne said as she scooped Jasmine up.
Jamal right then had to leave to visit the men's room.
"You going to be okay with Jasmine while I run to the men's room?" Jamal asked.
"I don't foresee any problems occurring," Dionne said. Jamal then excused himself so he could head off.
"Jasmine, if your father will let me I plan on taking an active role in your life. After all a cute little kid like you deserves a mother," Dionne said as the twins walked over. A few minutes later Jamal came walking back.
"Dionne, you want to swing by my house for a little bit?" he inquired while finishing his approach.
"Sure where do you live?" Dionne asked.
"Over on Oakdale in Settlement 4 what about yourself?"
"Right now I live in Old Colony near the path to the Ocean Dome. Thankfully I live with my parents so I'm able to work so I can support the twins. I don't want to work but I have to," Dionne said.
"That Dionne is where we are different. I want to be able to work but without childcare for Jasmine I can't. Also without some type of childcare the chances of my finding time to find a mother for her are slim," Jamal said.
By this time they were in the parking lot and were heading for their separate cars. Jamal waited at the Entrance with his car. It required using the vehicular teleport system but soon they were outside the Kent house. Jamal parked in the garage and Dionne took a spot in front of the garage.
"You could have parked in the garage," Jamal said.
"Jamal, I did some thinking on the drive over. You have to work but can't and I'm stuck working when I would rather be at home with the girls. It would be a couple weeks but what if I was to in the morning come here from my house in Old Colony and take care of Jasmine while you were at work. I could bring the twins with me," Dionne said. "IF some nights you wanted to take a date out to dinner or something I wouldn't mind staying late or even over."
"Your idea sounds good. I have a slight modification though," Jamal said as he lead her into the living room. "You moving in here with the twins. That way you wouldn't have to come in every morning. Why would it be a couple weeks before you could put your idea into action?"
"I have to put in two weeks notice at my present job," Dionne said.
"I'll fix it with your boss. I am an attorney after all," Jamal said.
"Good to know. The twins father is a real loser. He refuses to admit paternity so I can't collect Child Support from him," Dionne said.
"Definitely not good," Jamal said.
That evening I called my parents to let them know I was going to stay at a friends house until morning when I would be home to pack some things. I took the time to inform them that I had found a job in the child care field for a widower with an infant daughter. When they asked about the twins I told them that the twins would be with me at the widower's house since it was a live in position.
"Interesting, Did it ever cause any problems early on in the job?" my friend asked.
"Kind of," Dionne explained.
IT was four months into my job at Kents. One evening I was talking to Jamal after the kids were all in bed. Jasmine was six months old at this point.
"The Dating scene real thin. You haven't done any since I started here and that was one of the reasons you hired me," Dionne said.
"I just don't think it would be fair to you or Jasmine if I dated. Besides I wouldn't say I hired you since I'm not paying you persay for taking care of Jasmine. Instead I simply gave you access to my Electronic Transaction Account as an authorized withdrawaler. You're more of a roommate then an employee," Jamal said.
"Who would your dating not be to fair to?" Dionne asked confusion in her voice.
Jamal hinted at a photo of Dionne, Hillary, Randi, and Jasmine that Dionne had arranged to be taken a couple months before at a photo studio in the Mall. It was a birthday present for Jamal which is why he hadn't been in the picture.
"Dionne, Jasmine is used to you being around and the twins are used to both Jasmine as well as me so if I was to date somebody and marriage resulted my new wife might feel that your services weren't needed," Jamal said. "I'm sure Jasmine would adjust but I like having you around."
"Jamal, that's nice to know. Face it I have no plans at this point of changing careers. The hard part for me will be trying to explain to Jasmine when she is older why I'm not her mother when she will think I am," Dionne said. "As it is I sometimes think of her as my daughter and that worries me that the day might come when I move on and I won't want to leave her."
"Dionne, far as I'm concerned Jasmine is our daughter. Same with the twins," Jamal said.
"That day I realized that Jamal truly cared about me and we grew a little closer. Now look where we are today," Dionne said.
"Yes instead of taking the time to look for a wife and mother in a bar somewhere he looked inside his house," her friend said.
"Wendy, in your professional opinion do you think I should try to establish some kind of contact or even a relationship with Marsha let her know I exist and that she has siblings here?" Dionne asked.
"Marsha may not desire contact with someone who hasn't been a part of her life since she was born but you can try. Also her parents may decide that they don't want you to be involved in her life. Besides you don't even know that the family you left her with still has her," her friend said.
"It's worth a try," Dionne said.
Later that day
"Dear Marsha
"You probably don't know who I am unless your parents told you about me but I gave birth to you. I want you to understand that I was sixteen and whether it's on Earth which I've never been to or Capsilon IX sixteen isn't an age when most people feel a person should enter motherhood. When I was pregnant with you I purposely didn't make a decision about how I was going to handle becoming a mother until after your birth. I was glad I had done that because the couple I left you with were the best parents in the Universe even though they were childless prior to my entering their lives.
"I don't know if in your adopted family you have any brothers and or sisters but seven years ago I gave birth to two wonderful twin girls Hillary and Randila even if she insists on being referred to as Randi. Also five years ago I met my husband Jamal while his own daughter Jasmine was only a baby and I helped him to raise Jasmine since his first wife Angela who I later learned was a girl I was acquainted with in high school died a short while after Jasmine was born. Jamal after we got married adopted the twins but I have yet to adopt Jasmine since in my opinion it would be a mere formality since we have a mother daughter relationship as it is.
"Marsha, if you feel like you want to and your parents don't mind I'd like to get together with you at some point either here at my house or on neutral ground. No matter what you will always be welcome in my house. That last part is from Jamal as well since he wants to meet you.
Sincerely Yours
Dionne Wilson-Kent," the letter said.
Authors Note This next part takes place after the Fanfic
Blast From Yellow's Past in the bedroom that always existed for Marsha."SO what do you think?" Dionne asked.
"Well it could use a little redecorating," Marsha said looking at the wisps of pink in the room.
"What makes you say that?" Dionne inquired.
"This room is more like Amelia would use also I find that Pink doesn't work for me," Marsha said.
"In your opinion what would work?" Dionne asked.
"Yellow. Not just because I'm the Yellow Ranger but I've always preferred Yellow. When I brought up color while trying to get out of becoming a ranger I said that I didn't want Pink," Marsha said.
"What was Michelle's reaction?" Dionne asked.
"Michelle didn't say anything but Amelia said that Yellow which I said I wanted wasn't a problem since I had ended up with Yellow by default. By the time the guys and I were brought in Red and Pink were already taken," Marsha said. "I think that was the final clincher since after that I finally agreed."
"You tried to get out of becoming a ranger. Why since in your shoes I would have done it without hesitation because of the service that it means to the populous as a whole," Dionne said.
"I wasn't sure I really wanted to do it but after a few minutes I realized that I did want to become a ranger," Marsha said.
Closing Notes I could have kept this up for a long time but This looks to be a good stopping point.
