Disclaimer: Power Rangers belongs to Saban. Saban. Butcher- uh, ADAPTING Japanese live action since 1993.
Note: Had to happen. It's a good old fashioned song fic. Iris is the song, and the Goo Goo Dolls (whose name belies how serious they can be) sing it. This ones for Eileen, Phasm, Aaron, Joe, Jeese, Derik, and anyone else who inspired a bit of good discussion on alt.fan.power-rangers . You people make us loons look respectable.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest thing to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
The lay, comfortably ensconced in her bed, idly caressing each other. Her head on his stomach, his arm around her waist, and the purple comforter holding in the heat.
"Karone?"
"Mmm?"
Zhane licked his lip. He had never been good with women, despite his reputation as a ladies man. He'd had given anything to have done what he just felt had been done here earlier in his life- except lose the lovely woman who was sprawled out on the bed with him.
" I don't want to lose you."
Karone look up at him, frowning. "What brought this on?"
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
"I've … I've been with a few women in my day…"
Karone smiled. "Being in the Alliance of Evil doesn't really help a girl preserve her virginity, you know…"
"No, let me finish. It's not the fact I have… experience. It's just that… every other time, it was sex. Just sex. No love. But this…"
She saw him stammer and reached out, grabbing his hand. She squeezed it gently.
Zhane smiled. "Thanks. You see, that’s it."
"What?"
"You know how to comfort me- even when I've got that 'I'm above it all' attitude going. You laugh even when I get really idiotic. And…. My arms fit around you perfectly."
Her smile turned into an evil grin. "If that's a reference to my bust size, you've just spoiled a romantic moment."
He smiled. "That's not what I meant, although that is perfect too…"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. But what I meant is… when I hold you, it feels so right. You just fit in my arms perfectly. Any other woman would feel awkward in my arms after this. I'm not making any sense, am…"
She silenced him with a kiss.
Her breath mingled with his as she whispered, her face almost touching his. "You're making perfect sense. I just want you to know- I love you too, Zhane."
He gazed up at her, his eyes focused entirely on the line of her face, the way her hair cascaded around both their faces.
He kissed her, gently. She settled down again, her head over his heart. He felt her breath slow as she drifted off. He idly noted their breathing had become in sync before he drifted off.
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything seems like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know your alive
She watched as the rest danced. Carlos was surprisingly good on his feet as he guided partner after partner across the dance floor. TJ and Cassie were dancing with each other, not the up close dance of current or would be lovers, but of good friends having a good time. Andros and Ashley had eyes for each other.
She didn't like it. It was too public.
Zhane tapped her on the shoulder. "You want to go out on the terrace?"
She rose, straightening out her purple dress as she answered. "Yes. I hate places that are too..."
"Public?" he finished helpfully, echoing her earlier thought.
She smiled, nodding as he led her through the crowd. They stepped through the open doorway. She walked up to the railing and gazed out over the town below. Angel Grove was silent.
Then, two children passed by the dance hall. One was obviously down, his head bowed and his feat shuffling. The other was trying anything to cheer him up. Finally he leaned over and whispered in his friend's ear, and some how elected a giggle. She looked beside her and saw Zhane looking at the pair, that lopsided grin on his face.
"Remind you of anyone?" she said playfully.
"Not particularly," he said. She knew he saw the parallel between the pair below and his best friend and himself, but she let him smile.
"Have I told you how wonderful you are lately?"
"Not lately."
And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
She turned her back to the balcony rail and looked in his eyes. "That's when the important things happen, isn't it? When few are looking?"
I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
A slow song came up, wafting out threw the open door to the terrace. He offered his hand again and she took it, holding him close as they began to dance.
I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
"I love you," she whispered in his ear.
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
"Ditto. I love you too, Karone."
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
They danced long after the song stopped. Anything to be close.
