Hair Care
by: Cynthia

Ninety-seven. Ninety-eight. Ninety-nine. One hundred. Tommy Oliver put the brush down on the table and smiled as he tied his long hair back. He'd never quite been what one could call a sensualist, but he at least did like to brush his hair out. There was something unutterably relaxing about pulling a brush through the long locks of smooth, tangle-free hair. After a long day of running a dojo, he really enjoyed something that required little to no thought.

"You're done already?" Kat's voice came from the other side of the bed as she worked at a particularly intrusive tangle in her own mass of golden locks. In the last few years she'd let her hair grow until it went down nearly to her waist, mainly because, as she had said so often with a smile, she was tired of people mistaking him for the woman of the couple.

He just smiled at her. "I'm not the one with a mile and a half of hair," he leaned over the bed to take the brush out of her hand and started to slowly work at where she'd been having trouble. "You could cut your hair a little, you know. I think you're developing some split ends here."

Kat Oliver picked up a strand and examined it carefully. "I think you're right. Maybe I will drop by Tanya's and see if she can give me a trim tomorrow."

"Good idea." She sighed as Tommy continued to run the brush through her hair, feeling each stroke gently work out a little more of the tangles that plagued her so often. It had been another of those windy days in spring, and despite how much detangler and careful brushing she used during the day, there were always a dozen more tangles at night.

Tommy found two things relaxing at this time of day: brushing his hair and brushing his wife's hair. Either activity gave him pleasure, but it was the latter that he enjoyed the most. Seeing the smile on her face as he helped her, knowing that something he was doing was giving her pleasure, that was all the reward he needed or wanted.

Kat could feel her mind slipping closer and closer towards sleep as Tommy worked his brush and hands through her hair. This sort of thing relaxed her too, but at the same time, it energized her for certain other things. She wasn't all that positive this was the right time, even if it was definitely the right place.

Her husband quite obviously could tell what was on her mind, and whatever doubts she might've had about the time vanished as Tommy put the brush down and began to slowly kiss the side of her neck. Slowly, and very seriously. All thoughts of sleep took a very long walk at that point.

Some time later...much later to be accurate...Kat and Tommy lay in one another's arms, both feeling as at peace as could be. The night was perfect, made more so by the fact they were with one another. Despite it being summer, there were no bugs, thanks to certain woods and resins the Mirinoians had taught them of. It wasn't blisteringly hot, but was just warm enough so they didn't need a blanket.

"Thanks for brushing my hair, Tommy." Kat murmured softly. "And for everything else." Her fingers lightly brushed his chest, her mind so relaxed she was almost sleep-talking.

"Any time, Kat. I love you."

"I love you too." She yawned, her sapphire eyes sliding shut. "I wonder...." her question was punctuated by another deep yawn. "What color hair the baby will have..."

Tommy yawned himself, then snuggled closer to her. "I don't..." Sleep vanished from his mind and he sat up suddenly. "The what???"
